Family Fun Day For Disabled Children and Families

As part of the national Aiming High initiative, an event has been organised to raise awareness of the programme and highlight the benefits young people with additional needs can receive from taking part in targeted activities and parent forums.

Face painting, trampoling, soft play, an autism friendly room with Wii, family swimming, football, henna painting and entertainers are just some of the attractions on offer this Saturday, October 17th, free of charge.

The family fun and information day is taking place at Academy Sport Leisure Centre, Northumberland Avenue, from 1pm-4pm.

The event has been organised by the Council's Sport Reading Development Team, Parents from the Reading Parent Forum and Parent Partnership.

John Ennis, Lead Councillor for Children's Services, said: "Events like this provide a great opportunity for families with children who have a disability to make new friends and share their experiences and advice. The Aiming High programme offers a great deal to families in Reading."

Aiming High is a transformation programme for all disabled children. The forums are for all parents with children and young people with disabilities and are a place where they can network with parents and give feedback to the Council, so services can be further improved and developed.

For further information about the day please ring 0118 9594594 or visit www.sportreading.co.uk

For general information for parents around the Aiming High Initiative please contact Avril Verity Parent Partnership coordinator on (0118) 939 9821.
