Pre-school children and their parents are being encouraged to get moving and shaking as part of an activity program being launched at Reading's children's centres.
Under the six-week 'Movers and Shakers' sessions, children can take part in fun and stimulating games and activities, which will take place at Reading Children Centres.
Each game and activity features a different theme: safari, seasons, sports day, out and about, healthy eating and party time.
Each session follows structured play and includes a warm up, balance and co-ordination, movement and travel, jump and bounce, singalong and dance, learning zone and cool down.
The 'healthy eating' Movers and Shakers session for example, begins with children singing '1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive' and later bananas in pajamas. Balance and co-ordination techniques are then used in games called hot potatoes and one involving matching up fruit and vegetable baskets.
'Sports day' activities involve an egg and spoon race, bean bag balance and ball skills under the balance and co-ordination part. Children then go on to singing, jump and bounce with a sack race and jumping over obstacles and then relay races and obstacle courses under the movement and travel part.
The new Movers and Shakers program will be presented and discussed during a Sports Development Forum meeting taking place tomorrow (Tuesday, November 24).
